Katherine Hepburn plays the prim Rose Sayer, opposite the gin-swilling Humphrey Bogart in his Oscar-winning portrayal of Charlie Allnut, the captain of a tramp steamer called the African Queen, which ships supplies to small East African villages during World War I. When Germans invade Africa, Allnut offers to take Sayer home. En route, the two unlikely lovers’ passionate dislike for each other blossoms into love.
