With its scenes of devilish intrigue, kidnapping heroines, and lovers’ misunderstandings, MARCO SPADA is a fresh and joyful ballet not to be missed. The misdeeds of the bandit Marco Spada are notorious, but even his daughter has no idea of Spada’s secret double life. This rarely performed “swashbuckling” ballet in three acts has been recreated specially for the Bolshoi by French choreographer Pierre Lacotte. The production is both technically and dramatically demanding, featuring complex choreography, lead roles created for each of the five principals, several changes in scenery, and the participation of nearly all the Corps de Ballet.

A potent mix of lust, murder, and vengeance, this mesmerizing new production of Mozart’s sublime tragicomedy DON GIOVANNI will thrill cinema audiences. Mozart’s notorious hero is an artist who seduces an endless stream of women through his ability to create wonderful illusions. Shifting emphasis away from Don Giovanni’s sex life, Director of the Royal Opera Kasper Holten portrays Giovanni’s womanizing as an attempt to stave off his own mortality. The superb cast includes Mariusz Kwiecien, one of the world’s leading Giovannis; Alex Esposito, a fresh, vigorous Leporello; and acclaimed French soprano Veronique Gens.
