Better known as Much Ado About Nothing, the play is performed under the title Love’s Labour’s Won, a name possibly given to it during Shakespeare’s lifetime. Der fliegende Hollander October 2011

DER FLIEGENDE HOLLANDER – Royal Opera House

NR  |  2 hours 20 minutes

Wagner’s first masterpiece DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER explores the themes of damnation and redemption that would fascinate the composer throughout his career. In this tale of a captain forced to sail the seas for eternity unless released by the faithful love of a good woman, and the lonely girl who longs to save him, Wagner created two unforgettable characters operating near the limits of human emotion. Tim Albery’s atmospheric modern-dress staging provides an ideal platform on which Bryn Terfel’s turbulent Dutchman and Adrianne Pieczonka’s visionary Senta will explore their passions and struggle to find salvation in a hostile world.
