Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD is the story of independent, beautiful and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts, RUST AND BONE), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge, EFFIE GRAY), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Golden Globe nominee Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba’s choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance.

JULIUS CAESAR – Shakespeare’s Globe on Screen

NR  |  2 hours 40 minutes

Opposing dictatorship and republicanism, private virtue and mob violence: Shakespeare’s tense drama of high politics resonates even today. When Caesar returns to Rome from the wars, Brutus and his republican friends decide that the great general’s dictatorship must be curbed – which in Rome can mean only one thing. But once the deed is done, the idealistic conspirators must reckon with the forces of a new power bloc, led by Mark Antony and Caesar’s nephew Octavius. This sell-out production of JULIUS CAESAR employs authentic Renaissance costumes and staging, complemented by director Dominic Dromgoole’s impassioned interpretation of one of Shakespeare’s classic plays.

A gripping mafia fable based on true events, BLACK SOULS is a tale of violence begetting violence in Calabria, a real-life mafia (‘Ndrangheta) seat in Southern Italy. Embodying the complex morality inherited by each successive generation, the Carbone family consists of three brothers – two engaged in the family business of international drug trade, and one who has remained in their ancestral home on the Mediterranean coast herding goats. When his son shoots up a bar owned by a rival family, the boy’s reckless actions create trouble that brings the whole family back home for the inevitable bloody showdown.

HEAVEN ADORES YOU is an intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith (1969-2003). Since his death in 2003, many media-makers have attempted to tell the story of his creative genius through the lens of struggle, heartache, and addiction. Director Nickolas Rossi employs a different lens, placing music center-stage, creating a framework for Elliott to narrate the story of his life himself, through the filter of recorded conversations and interviews, with support from friends along the way. With great care, Rossi expertly weaves together 30+ interviews to create an intimate and personal history like never seen before.
